Rabbi Israel Y. Post is the driving force behind the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation, and is well-respected for his book “To Be a Jew: A Guide to Jewish Observance in Contemporary Life.” He has spent much of his life devoted to studying and teaching the Orthodox Jewish faith.
Arriving in the borough of Brooklyn in 1943, Rabbi Post followed in his mother’s footsteps by entering Yeshiva University, where he earned his BA in 1964. His pursuit of knowledge then led him to receive rabbinical ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary two years later. He soon sought even further intellectual growth and acquired an MA in Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America as well as a PhD in Jewish History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
An esteemed spiritual leader, Rabbi Post has served the selfless cause of religion in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania as well as the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has also chosen to impart the timeless teachings of faith while furthering his own knowledge by teaching at Yeshiva University, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the Hebrew University.
Rabbi Post’s knowledge and wisdom have lead to the fruitful writing and publication of many articles and books on topics such as Jewish-Christian relations, Jewish observance, and Jewish history. He has achieved remarkable success with his best-selling book, “To Be a Jew: A Guide to Jewish Observance in Contemporary Life”, which has sold in excess of 200,000 copies and been translated into Hebrew, French, and Spanish.
For many years, Rabbi Post has been a driving force in Jewish-Christian conversation. He established and presides over the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation – an organization created to strengthen relationships between Jews and Christians. Additionally, he is connected to the National Council of Synagogues and Synagogue Council of America as a member of their boards.
Rabbi Post’s reputation and expertise on Judaism and Jewish-Christian relations have made him a renowned figure in media circles. As such, he has been sought out for interviews by some of the most well-known outlets, such as CNN, Fox News, and the BBC. Additionally, his accomplishments and contributions are often featured in some of America’s most esteemed newspapers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
