How to use a t post clip

A t post clip holds a wire or fence securely and steady to a metal post. This helpful fastener is contoured from a strip of resilient metal, with its center containing a tiny puncture. To use, it’s wrapped around the top of the post and the wire passes through the hole. As easy as it is to fit, with just a few quick squeezes, it’s secure enough to stay firm and fixed in place.

The t post clip is a popular tool for creating connections between posts and wires. Its most common application involves hooking it over the peak of the post, slipping a wire through the slot, wrapping it around the post, and finally tightening the clip. Although this operation is a breeze to do, its security is considerably weakened.

A more secure option when using a t post clip is to slip the clip onto the post’s top and pass the wire through its aperture. Thread the wire through the attached loop, then pull taut – although it’ll take a little longer to do than the other approach.

For the utmost in protection and safety, wrap the wire through the hole in the clip, thread it through the loop, and secure it around the post using a pair of pliers. While this is the most reliable way to keep it in place, it’s also the most time consuming.

Regardless of the technique selected, a pair of pliers is needed to safely secure the clip in place. Begin by setting the clip on the apex of the post and guiding the wire through its hole. If you opted for approach one or two, wrap the wire around the post, and with the help of your pliers, clamp down on the clip. If you chose method number three, first thread the wire in the loop of the clip and then swirl it around the post. Lastly, seize a hold of the pliers to firmly fasten it.

To finish putting the clip in place, take some wire cutters and snip away any extra wires. Be sure that you bring the wire flush with the top of the clip to prevent things from catching on it. All that remains is to admire your completed t post clip!
